G&D's Ice-Cream Cafe

牛津沒有夜市的,除了酒吧以外,只有這家雪糕店(George & Daver) 營業至凌晨＋ニ時. 所以Deepti, Tarun, Ravi 和我有時會食過晚飯後散步去St Aldates or Little Clarendon Street 食雲糕. 我最喜歡的是 Bananarama, Oxford Blue (Blueberry), Pistachio, etc, 最憎Sorbet. 雖然氣温只有10至15度, 其實春天巳經到了. 看看我窗外的樹,綠葉剛剛長出來了, 以後去食G&D's也不怕冷了. 對比一下我8 Dec 2007日誌"Winter"的相就知道時間過得很快,不是很快應說是太快.

常聽說英国見面最喜歡用天氣做開塲白,我現在終於明白了,這裏的天氣變幻莫測,真的很多話題. 見它鳥雲密佈時,真的不吐不快; 見它出太陽時, 就禁不住要讚賞一番.

Ice Skating

Did many sports over this week. Since MBAT is coming soon, I practise basketball and squash followed by one event that I wish to do for a long time -- Ice Skating. We went there at 9pm which is a very good time because there were less than 20 people in the rink. I haven't skated since high school, lucky me didn't slip on the ice. Fun!

Switch Electives

After attending the first lesson of "Branding & Communication", I have decided to pay GBP40 and switch to another elective - "Real Estate". I don't like the Branding class, it seems that the course is not properly structured e.g. no clearly scheduled reading materials in the course pack until the professor send us emails; no powerpoint presentation and no hand-outs; no marketing theory at all, just BS (*not balance sheet) for 3 hours. Some classmates found the course okay but as I am not a marketing people, I don't find much value added to me by just chit-chat on "What do you think branding is?" in the class.

I feel regret for choosing such because I was blinded by the word "Brand", and no detail research before choosing such subject. Besides, I don't understand why I need to be penalised by paying the course switching fee because the professor is not teaching well.

This week is not a lucky week for me, too much time spent on writing cover letters and the business idea, feel bad!

Trinity Week 1

Some classes have been started in last week (Week 0) because we need to travel to Paris for MBAT in Week 3. Although it is only Week 1, I am very busy because we need to tailor make 10 cover letters for bidding Strategic Consulting Project (SCP) to be conducted during July and Aug. In addition, I have joint a competition organised by China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) which requires us to design an innovative business idea for MNCs to compete with non-renewable energy in China. I've learnt a lot in the topics of renewable energy, corporate social responsibility and sustainability which are hot agenda in the international political stage. However, I feel tired and have no time to practise squash for MBAT. Poor.........

I, as most of the Hong Kong people, am politically inactive. After coming to UK, I started to learn more about my country (not Hong Kong, it is Greater China), including its history, economics and politics (e.g. China vs Taiwan). I still have many misunderstandings about my country, however, in the Tibet Incident, no way, 做人不能太CNN.

Trinity Term

「開學了,大家一起上學去.」這是我小學一年級中文第一課的課文.

同學們陸續回到牛津,最要好的幾個一到Heathrow Airport便不及待打手机給我了,很是掛念! 其實可能是Heathrow太多人過關或等行理太久太無聊才打給我吧! ^0^

見我寫中文blog就知道我現在幾清閒, 因為昨天未開学已交了第一份Private Equity的功課. 今個term死硬,六們課18份功課8個星期完成. 所以今個term的learning objective是做事要有效率,相信會幫到我改善工作效率,那麼返香港工作便沒有那麼幸苦了!

今天下午是Trinity Term的第一堂課, 上Business in China, pre-course reading 已看過了,什麼SOE,WOFE,兩免三減半以前也知道的了. 再從systematical way 下学其他新更西,應該頗有用的.

開學用的兩個新書包和兩對新皮鞋(另有新泳衣和party dress ^0^)也預備好了. Come on, enjoy the last term!

Oasis Airline

從Italy回來後,打開箱便見到五封好朋友寄來的郵件通知我Oasis清盤的消息. 多謝關心,好朋友即好朋友,還會封念遠方的我. 小妹來牛津時只買了單程机票,所以未受影響,其實机票open一年會有很多uncertainty, 所以我沒有買回程. 有幸在Oasis有生之年能乘搭一次,可算是千載難蓬.

其實收到這個消息有些不爽,相信李牧師是大好人,也聽聞他們會給折扣予一些海外宣教仕或短宣隊. 真想不通為什麼那麼快使完蛋,好像這麼短線的financial budgeting也做得不像樣似的. 多謝李牧師曾為港人提供廉價机要,想信我幾個月後回來時BA,CX,Quantas的票價已上脹狼多了. 最後,相信這次的大贏家是畢馬威,有一畢可觀的清盤服務收費和在報章上的免費宣傳.

Day 8 - Rome to London

We spent some more time shopping in Oxford Street and Kingsington High Street to end my Hilary break trip. I treasure this trip, it is the most relaxing trip that I've ever hard so far. Everything safe and smooth, no Mafia, no missing luggages. We met George Clooney and Renee Zellweger promoting their movie Leatherheads; and Pope Benedict XVI in Rome.

It was exciting to see the cathedrals and fountains for the first few times but started to feel bored when seeing too many. Besides, the buildings and streets are too old and dusty that cause my nose to have an allergic reaction again, which didn't happen since I come to UK. May be I am not a person for Europe except UK. Now, I am happy to come back to Oxford again, it's like my second home.

Day 5 - Florence to Rome

Eurostar from Florence to Rome. See our huge suitcases! It is not easy to carry the giant monsters into and off the trains. Give you a practical tips, you can just stand there, block the way, then, there would be some gentlemen give you helping hands.
